Process of Making Hemp Candle Wick
Requirements
- A thick container about 2-3 inches wide
- Natural beeswax
- Double boiler
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Pliers
- Wooden spoon
- Essential oils (Optional)
Instructions
-
Cut the wick
Cut the appropriate length of hemp candlewick. Ensure it is about five-inch longer than your container.
-
After that, join the wick to the wick tab.
Pass the wick through the tab opening and use pliers to pinch the top. This allows the wick to stick at the bottom of the container.
-
Set your double boiler.
You can use a bowl and a saucepan if you don’t have a double boiler. Add water to the saucepan and place a bowl on top. Ensure the bowl rests on the top edge of the pan without any contact with the water. If you use a double boiler, place it over the stove top.
-
Use medium heat
Use medium heat on the double boiler to melt the wax for the hemp candlewick.
-
Add wax to the pot
Place the wax into the pot. It will melt as the water boils below it. Use a wooden spoon to stir the wax. Please pay attention to ensure that it does not burn. Then, add the essential oils to the wax as it melts and mix them. The amount determines your preference.
-
Then, place hemp wick in the container.
Immerse the wick tab that fastens the hemp candle wick into the wax. This prevents movement as you add the wax into the container. After that, add some wax on the bottom and place the tab at the container’s center as you press it down. This hardens and holds it in position.
-
Set the hemp candle wick at the middle
Once you fasten the tab at the bottom, use a pencil to wrap the wick that stretches out beyond the container and lie it on edge. It ensures that the wick remains vertical and in the middle of the candle.
-
Allow the wax to melt.
Then, allow the ice to melt completely and leave to cool slightly.
-
Pour the wax
Pour the wax into the container and ensure you leave some space at the top.
-
Cooling
After pouring the wax, allow the candle to cool. You can leave it overnight for it to harden completely.
-
Cut hemp wick
Cut the excess hemp candle wick with scissors.
-
Finally, burn
You are through with making a hemp candlewick.
During the process, ensure you start with a longer wick than the container as you can always cut it off later. Hemp wick is entirely safe and natural. It has no pesticide residues or any other toxins. You have a guarantee that the candle you make is 100% organic.
