However, there are interlocking hempcrete bricks that are specially designed to be load-bearing. So, these are great for people who still prefer hempcrete for their homes and buildings. Without a doubt, it’s an excellent non-toxic material that can provide high insulation. And it’s also eco-friendly.

The long hemp fibers are quite strong, and they are used in many applications today. One of these is the composite hemp wood that’s used for flooring, furniture, and other household items. Hemp wood uses the compressed fiber pulp that’s combined with a special glue to provide it with exceptional strength. It’s a great alternative to commonly used natural wood like oak since it could give even better strength and durability.

Hemp insulations are also biodegradable, so it’s a perfect choice if you want to reduce your environmental footprint. And similar to the spray foam insulations, they can regulate noise very well and could be quite an energy-efficient option for your home.

What most people don’t realize is that hemp has been commercially used as an alternative to synthetic plastics for decades in many industries. Fiberglass, in particular, is being replaced by hemp-based plastic materials for several reasons. Hemp plastics are extremely strong and yet very lightweight and can, therefore, provide various functional efficiencies. Whether they are more durable than fiberglass will depend on how they are manufactured. But hemp is also entirely sustainable, non-hazardous, and provides excellent insulation compared to the regular fiberglass material.

And all these make hemp rubber a unique material, especially for industrial use.

There are two measurements usually used in commercial settings to gauge strength. One is the amount of pressure a material could withstand before it breaks or gets permanently damaged. For example, there’s a certain amount of weight a glass could hold before it finally cracks. The second criterion is a material’s ability to endure pressure and spring back into its original form without any damage. Think of a rubber that could get back into shape after stretching, but could also break after a certain point. And studies have found that hemp performs better in both of these strength measurements against steel.

But manufacturers use the hemp fiber and make a composite material, which is pretty sturdy and long-lasting. I’ve heard of hemp music instruments like guitars that are sold by a few specialized boutique stores. But I don’t think it’s commercially done yet on a large scale. But you can expect to see more music instrument manufacturers experimenting with hemp materials in the future.
