Hempcrete is more expensive than concrete. Hempcrete costs, on average, $135 per square meter, whereas concrete costs $85 per square meter. However, hempcrete is a better regulator of temperature in the home as well as being ideal in humid conditions as it is mold and mildew resistant.

At the front end, hempcrete is more expensive than concrete today by a slight margin. Because it is still new to the market, the need for hempcrete is not there to help drive the price down. You are investing in a quality material that is an all-around better product. Hempcrete is more reliable, more durable, and better for the environment. You do not have to worry about awful chemicals being used in the production of hempcrete or the release of harmful substances over time. Hempcrete is well worth the investment.

I agree with you that it certainly is worth the investment, but until such a point where hempcrete costs become more on a par with concrete, the adoption into mainstream construction is going to be slower than it should be.

Concrete is much less expensive compared to hempcrete. But don’t just decide on price. Consider your specific needs and the pros and cons of each material. Hempcrete has a few advantages over concrete. It’s eco-friendly, non-toxic, mold-resistant, and works better with temperature and humidity changes. But concrete is ideal for load-bearing. It’s also widely available and easy to repair.

When you directly compare hempcrete to other building materials, the first that typically springs to mind is concrete. While greener methods of construction generally are favored, the cost of switching out older, less sustainable materials for their eco-friendly counterparts is crucial to the adoption curve.

Technically speaking, the cost of building with hempcrete should not cost more than with concrete, but it won’t offer a compelling cost-saving. The core advantage of choosing to make with hempcrete over concrete is the eco-friendly nature of hempcrete. Aside from this, hempcrete will offer additional thermal performance that will provide long-term cost savings.

Let’s take a look at the differences they have at first; for instance, concrete holds a great advantage from hempcrete like it can be used to build load-bearing structures, but the green essence of hemp planet shields our world through the postmodern era to mention the hempcrete abilities we can add resisting mold, damp, fungus… so yes hempcrete holds the less price but with big surprises!

In terms of the cost of a yard, the average price of concrete is $108, while hempcrete might cost higher than that. Let’s take a look at a critical material for each. Sand is a significant component of a concrete mix, while hemp hurd is for hempcrete. Hemp Hurd might cost $0.57 per pound, while sand might cost $0.015 per pound, which would make the hempcrete expensive to produce than concrete.

From my knowledge of the subject, concrete is rather inexpensive, the majority of the cost coming from the water usage. With hempcrete, the same idea holds true, so I would think hempcrete is a bit more expensive since it isn’t as cheap to create exact numbers, I do not know.

It’s roughly the same, with hempcrete being a bit higher, just due to it being a bit more difficult to come by. I anticipate that changing soon, though.

My buddy’s a contractor, and I asked him this very question! It’s honestly about the same!
He said the price difference would come from hemp is a crop and the cultivation of it, but outside of that, the cost between Hempcrete and concrete is very similar.

Your buddy is probably not shipping it from overseas.

Shipping hemp curds can often cost more than the product itself.

But now that hemp is more widely available, and perhaps the cost eventually will come down, making it cost-competitive with concrete.

As for now, you can expect the cost to be the same, if not slightly more expensive.

Hempcrete does cost about the same as conventional materials in most situations. But sometimes it can save money like if you can’t build a strip foundation, hempcrete buildings have a lower density so you could build a raft foundation, which is cheaper than a massive concrete slab.
