Yes. They are high in oil, so they do go rancid after a time. I keep them in the fridge so I can use them up before they go bad. Rancid hemp seeds smell like rancid oil. They don’t smell like food, and they sure won’t taste like food. Throw them out!

Always check your labels and see what they say on expiration dates and sell-by dates. When hemp expires, it just loses its potency and effectiveness. Whole hemp seeds should be consumed within two months of the purchase date. Please make sure you pay close attention to the expiration date and research the company that processed the product and sees what they’re recommended consume by date is.

The best way to tell if hemp seeds have gone rancid is by there smell. Much like other products, hemp seeds will go bad after a time as they begin to decompose. It’s recommended to keep hemp seeds in either the refrigerator or freezer to extend their lifespan. The seeds will stay fresh for up to a year if not refrigerated.

Like as many seed-based edibles which preferably are oily, they can become rancid too. Still, if you opened them, you must use it under six months, therefore do not let your seeds corrupted, and of course, if it won’t be opened, it can stand out up to 1-year approximately.

Yes, just like any other similar food or nuts. It is identical to the shelf life of CBD oil as well. If they are opened, they will last a few months, up to six. You can place them in the fridge or freezer to try and slow this process. If un-opened, they can last up to a year.
