Yes, and no. Scientifically, it is the same plant, or a variation thereof. However, “hemp” refers to more of a legal standard–cannabis with a low-THC level. At the same time, marijuana and hashish come from cannabis plants and strains that have been bred to have a higher amount of THC. It’s kind of like the old adage, “All puppies are dogs, but not all dogs are puppies.” All hemp is cannabis, but not all cannabis is hemp. However, upon sight alone, one would be hard-pressed to differentiate between the two.

Yes, the two come from the same plant but are harvested at different stages of the plant’s life and processed differently. Hashish – hash – comes from mature and pollinated female cannabis plants. The flowers of this stage create a resin. That is where the mixture comes from. The resin is powdery and is collected from the flowers and formed into cakes or blocks that are then smoked. Hash is known to be more potent than marijuana because the levels of THC are higher. Marijuana is the dried flowers from the cannabis plant. You can then crush the flowers to be smoked, or cooked down to form oil.

No, marijuana and hashish don’t come from the hemp plant. Marijuana and hashish come from the cannabis plant. The plant material derived from the cannabis plant is marijuana, while hashish is the compressed resin. Both hashish and marijuana are cultivated from Cannabis Sativa or Cannabis Indica, keep in mind there are different strains of the plant as well as hybrids.

Hashish is made from the resin of the cannabis plant. Essentially, it is a cannabis concentrate that is made from purified or compact preparations of trichomes (stalked resin glands). It’s widely regarded to be the most concentrated and potent cannabis form. On the other hand, Marijuana is the actual plant material and comes from the flowers, dried leaves, stems, and seeds of the plant.

Hemp and Cannabis are often used interchangeably, and to look at, they appear quite similar. However, hemp is usually a legal variety with a low level of THC. However, cannabis plants can contain as high as 30% THC.

Marijuana and hashish come from a cousin of the hemp plant. Both come from the plant Cannabis sativa, but there are variations of plants and strains under that name.

Yes, even though hemp and marijuana also the other drug that comes out of it named hashish are both the same species of a plant, there are some significant ways in which they differ, such as chemical composition, legality.

Wow, great question! Yes, and no, I would say. They really come from the same plant, but they come from different versions containing different amounts of THC. The hemp plant contains almost no THC at all, whereas the marijuana plant has much much more. CBD can come from both and is, in fact, the same oil from both, but the oil comes from two very separate but equal plants!

Marijuana and Hashish came from the same Cannabis plant. Cannabis is a genus of flowering plants in the Cannabaceae family with three primary species, Cannabis indica, Cannabis sativa, and Cannabis ruderalis. Marijuana came from the dried buds and leaves of Cannabis plants while Hashish came from dried resin of flowering tops of mature Cannabis plants. And the hemp plant came from a different species of Cannabis. The study was conducted, and it was found out that hemp plant is genetically similar to Cannabis indica while Marijuana and Hashish are genetically similar to Cannabis sativa.

I would have to disagree with everyone that says it is a different plant.

They are the same plant called Cannabis sativa. They are merely grown for different reasons.

Hemp is the cannabis that is grown for industrial purposes like fiber, CBD, and food.

Marijuana is the form of cannabis that is grown to produce bountiful flower buds (weed) and is typically grown to be consumed as medicine or recreational.

The genetics for hemp, cannabis, weed, is the same: Cannabis sativa.

The term “marijuana” actually comes from prohibition-era terminology when they wanted to associate “Mexican tobacco” as something “bad” that immigrants brought over.

This helped in banning “marijuana” meanwhile, hemp oil was sold on the shelves in drug stores because no one knew that marijuana was, in fact, hemp too.

You’re welcome for the taxonomic and historical lesson of cannabis.

No, the hemp plant and the marijuana plant are different but come from the same genus of plants. As Melody stated, the major difference is in the THC content. While some states say it must be below 1% THC, the majority have a limit of .3% for it to be allowed to be sold as industrial hemp.

No, they are all different. Marijuana is the cousin of the hemp plant, which is the cannabis that contains more than 0.3% THC (psychoactive) and can induce psychotropic effects or makes the user “high.” On the other hand, hashish is from compressed or dried resin, from flowering tops of female mature and not yet pollinated cannabis plant.

No, they are different plants. The difference between them is based on the amount of THC (if it can get you high.) But the plants often look the same. Hemp contains no more than 0.3% THC, but marijuana contains up to 30%. CBD is derived from both hemp and marijuana. You might assume that CBD from each is different from the other. But the CBD oil is the same.
