      Just like for any other plant, there is an official botanical designation for Hemp. This categorization goes as follow:
      Division: Magnoliopsida (angiosperms or flowering plants);
      Class: Magnoliopsida;
      Order: Urticales;
      Family: Cannabinaceae;
      Genus: Cannabis;
      Species: sativa;
      According to the Vavilov Institute in St. Petersburg, Russia, there are over 400 different varieties of recorded Hemp. They are both used for fiber production or seed harvesting.

      From what I’ve read, there are 100’s of different types so similar to each other and some very different, kind of like dogs. Now that’s it’s legal in parts of the US, I would expect people will try cross-breeding it and whatnot, which should lead to even more variations.

      Hemp has over 400 distinct types. It is a dicotyledonous plant i.e., it has two cotyledon leaves and has both male and female flowers on the same plant as well as separately. They are divided into separate groups such as:
      1. Borealis – Northern hemp, grows about 5 ft.
      2. Medioruthenica – Central Russian hemp, grows about 4-9 ft.
      3. Australis – Southern or Mediterranean hemp, grows about 8-15 ft.
      4. Asiatica – Asian hemp, smaller stalks – 8-10 ft
      5. Wild hemp – Spontanea, short branches
