I honestly would feel better just buying them, as I don’t know if I trust myself making a quality pair of these.

But apparently, they are super easy to make if you did want to do it! You can make a pair of thong sandals by wrapping a few pieces of hemp around your toes and then tie those few pieces around your ankle.

You would then sew this into the insole of your choosing and bam!! You are good to go out and about on the town!

I would agree with you here. But, making your hemp sandals could be quite fun and a little quirky too. Thongs are super simple to make, and you could get a bit creative and weave the hemp yourself also.

Personally, as Hempmaster3000 says, I’d probably want to buy them, so I knew they were going to be quality and last.

Making your hemp sandals is a bit of a tedious task, but it’s certainly possible. Apart from hemp rope, you’ll need innersoles, glue, and strings. You can easily find videos online to guide you with the rest. And you can always make it a bit fashionable with some color and sparkle. I guess if you want to lower your carbon footprint, hemp sandals are the perfect alternative to the more popular rubber and leather products.

You can make hemp sandals like you would any woven shoe. You would need the insole, hemp corded rope or yarn, and a tapestry needle. If you want more of a shoe, you can add canvas or leather to go over the foot. The method I have seen is weaving the rope or yarn around the insole. You can then weave the cope to cover the foot in any way you like. From the base, you can sew canvas or leather around it to make espadrilles.

Here is how to make hemp sandals:

Loop a long piece of hemp rope around your big toe. Loop another piece of hemp rope from left to right in an over-under pattern. Repeat this from right to left and again, until you have done it four times. Ensure the toe area is secure. Continue using the over-under method until you have the desired size of the sandal. Take another piece of hemp rope to secure the sandal to the foot. Tie loops off on the front side of the sandal that will be used to tighten them to fit your foot size.

To make one, you have to reach out to some tools and follow simple steps! For instance, you need hemp rope, innersoles in your shoe size, large needle, and linen thread. The hemp rope itself is firm and sustainable and eco-friendly, also classy! Make it with a few simple skills and stuff I wrote it down lately, the steps: google it!

Yes, you could maybe save some money by making your sandals, but spending $20-$50 would ensure that you get quality.

If you still want to make your sandals, you can make simple thongs by using a couple of strands of hemp and wrapping them around your toes and then tie the ends around your ankle.

Bam. You’re done. Add decorations to your strings as you go.

These are popular and simple to make. Check out Pinterest for ideas.

      • Tie two ropes together at the center then tie it at sturdy furniture.
      • Braid the strings together using the braiding method (four-strand).
      • Using a linen thread and a large needle, sew the rope into the outside edge of innersole.
      • Insert one side of the rope between the outer sole and the sewn rope where the front of the ankle would be.
      • Excess rope must be cut.

Hemp sandals are generally made from hemp (to form the top and support) and rubber or another material (to form the outer and midsoles). These days, hemp sandals are made industrially, using machinery and produced in bulk, to keep up with consumer demand. However, you can still buy handcrafted hemp sandals online and from small boutique vendors.

Easy! You need four 20 ft pieces of hemp rope, innersoles, a large needle, and some linen thread.

Tie the rope ends together in the center using string. Tie the string to something heavy. Now you have four pieces of hemp rope. Braid the ropes together, securely but not too tight.
Sew the innersole in with the large needle and linen thread around the edges. Sew the rope into a coil on the bottom. Cover entirely and cut the braid.
Sew the straps on between the sewn rope and the outer sole about 2” in front of your ankle. Cut any excess rope.
