There’s no ban on growing industrial hemp in Australia. It’s perfectly legal in all states, although you may see slight differences in regulations among states. For instance, Queensland has a THC limit of 1%, while many other states have it set at 0.35%.
Industrial hemp is a growing industry in Australia today, and it’s grown for all sorts of applications, from food, clothes, and fiber to construction material.

No, it’s not illegal to grow hemp in Australia; but if you do, you need to have a license. It’s a costly and time-intensive process. There are specific THC limitations as with other locations around the world. But because of its classification still being under the drugs and controlled substances act, you, first of all, need a state-issued license and agree to abide by the very strict and stringent rules imposed by the Australian government.

Yes, if what is being grown fits under the sanctioned guidelines in certain areas in Australia. You must have a license to grow industrial hemp with a THC level under 0.35%. Their instructions are similar to ours in that hemp is under the WEED umbrella and is monitored as a narcotic. Also, like the US, there is a bit of a battle between local and federal governments on regulating the industry.

Is hemp legal to grow in Australia? A quick, simple answer is yes, as long as its industrial hemp and it is being grown with a license issued by the state government. The location of the hemp being grown must also be approved by the state government. The reason behind this is that the government wants to ensure that it is not being grown for therapeutic reasons and to ensure that it does not come into contact with the population.

      Yes, it is technically illegal.

They do issue state-licenses for industrial hemp use that is strictly enforced.

No recreational cannabis growing is legally happening in Australia.

In Australia, it is illegal to grow hemp unless you get a license from the local state government. These have to be cultivation licenses to make sure you are not selling it for the wrong purposes!

Although limited, yes, and on conditions. Based on the last updates from Australia, farmers have to apply for a license for planting, and the given obligations differ from each one, the location should be approved by the government so as the monitoring with special investigators. In this region, the government allocates hemp (even with the specific THC levels) as cannabis under the “drugs, poisons and controlled substances act.

Hemp can only be legally grown in Australia under a state-issued license. It is because industrial hemp is classified as a plant under Drugs, Poisons, and Controlled Substances Act of 1981 rather than a farming commodity. Hemp farmers must agree to monitor and inspections by the state government. This is to make sure that it is used for therapeutic reasons and not for recreational use.

Not quite, you just need to obtain a license from the necessary state government, like many states in the U.S. require. Like any business endeavor, you will want a business plan in place and have identified any hurdles that you may need to overcome.

It’s still federally illegal in the country. However, the state governments do issue cultivation licenses.

Industrial hemp in Australia requires a license to grow. The licenses are issued by each local state government. The federal government considers industrial hemp to be cannabis, even when the low levels of THC are present. Hopefully, soon they will update their ‘Drugs, Poisons, and Controlled Substances Act of 1981.

If the Australian government considers industrial hemp to be cannabis, is cannabis considered legal in Australia? Is there a limit to how much industrial hemp you can grow in Australia?
