The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has approved Rhode Island’s hemp regulatory plan since 2018. Thus all the producers and farmers in Rhode Island are now allowed to apply for licenses to cultivate the hemp crop. There are conditions, though. You are not allowed to get high using industrial hemp. The amount of CBD must be lower than 0.3 percent. And Since October 9, 2018, producers, farmers, and processors can apply for their licenses to growing hemp.

Hemp cultivation has been legal in Rhode Island since the year 2017. The Hemp Growth Act permits licensed farmers or producers that have applied to grow hemp. The act also includes treating hemp as an agricultural product that can be legally produced, owned, and distributed in the state. The Department of Business Regulation establishes rules and regulations for licensing hemp farmers.

Yes! The Farm Bill in 2018 made hemp a legal commodity nationally. That said, many states have their own further legislature and procedures for obtaining the proper licensure to grow. Always check with local/state farm agencies to ensure you follow protocol (:

Yes! It is quite new to the state of RI, so you will need to obtain a license from your respected government website or office. Just like any business endeavor, you should have a business plan in place and identify any hurdles that may occur, so you start on the right path without intrusion.

Hemp farming is legal in Rhode Island in 2020, and when industrial hemp is produced, with a content of less than 0.3% THC, it is considered an agricultural commodity. While this is a fairly new initiative, Rhode Island Farmers have been applying to the state department for over ten years for their agreement and permission to grow hemp. Aside from the demand for the crop, the fact it also pumps nutrients back into the soil makes it a sound choice.

Rhode Island, but the hemp flower has to have less than 0.3% THC. Rhode Island legalized hemp under the Rhode Island Industrial Hemp Pilot Program, back in 2016, so properly licensed farmers can grow hemp in Rhode Island!

In October 2018, Rhode Island farmers could apply for a state license in order to plant, grow, harvest, process, and produce industrial hemp.
