This is actually an urban myth. Levi’s were cotton. However, hemp fiber jeans are certainly a new up and coming trend.

Urban legend!!! I’ve heard it before, too. They say the first Levis were made of hemp. Unfortunately, Levis tells us that they used cotton from the Amoskeag Cotton and Woolen Manufacturing Company. Great idea though… lol Some say, Jack Herer, the great “Emperor of Hemp”, started the rumour as part of his American cannabis rights campaigns.

Hemp fiber has served humanity for thousands of years to create fabrics and canvass. It was indeed a common material for clothing because of its durability and versatility. As per Gregorio Crini’s Sustainable Agriculture Reviews 42 book, Levis Strauss’s original denim jeans designed for the Navy were made from hemp because of its flexibility, strength, and resistance to water damage.

Hey guys, let’s not give credit to such rumors, when you think it through you will learn that there’s no benefit in even repeating these strange words is worthless.
Let’s focus on developing some scientific credited subjects that help us understand why we are trying to push the edges forward for this particular kind of product that we are working on.

No. This one is a myth. I also heard about this too, which is why I know the answer. According to Levis, they were always made of cotton.
Almost all sailcloth was made from hemp before the 1890s though.
