CBD stands for cannabidiol, while CBG is for cannabigerol. CBG helps in making CBD, so they are both cannabinoids, but they are different compounds. While CBD has been proven for its medical and health benefits, CBG is currently being studied for its properties and has not been in clinical trials yet. Interests for things are now growing, and sooner, these cannabinoids may found to have many distinct medical uses.

Just like CrayM said, it is the precursor to THC and CBD.
Once the plant synthesizes it into either one, it usually contains less of the other.
CBG has been known to help patients suffering from glaucoma by reducing the pressure in the eyes.
It also has been reported that it may have some antibacterial properties!
I’m sure when these cannabinoids are studied more, we’ll continue to find more benefits than we had known previously.

CBG is the “mother” of THC and CBD since it is thought that all cannabinoids derive from this. CBG is what comes from the hemp plant, and if heated up to be treated/converted, it will then become CBD.
