Hempcrete is both lightweight and breathable, and a biocomposite of hemp shiv or herd with lime. These individual elements are mixed together with water, then form a high-strength blend that creates the final hempcrete product. Hempcrete is different from other composites in construction because it has a stronger consistency. It’s a naturally sourced material with a low carbon footprint; it’s a long-lasting, structurally strong substance that provides good insulation in warmer and cooler climates.

The hempcrete (with a base of hemp instead of cement) is replaced with the heavyweight concrete used to build walls. Amazingly the hempcrete has super lightened weight (an eighth of the weight) comparing to other concrete materials. They made it by some lime with an excellent bending feature. Also, the blocks made from it are waterproof and can last longer and float above the water!

Hempcrete is a bio-composite material made from mixing hemp hurds or shives with lime. The mixture is combined with a suitable amount of water. Hempcrete is short for hemp concrete, which weight is eight times lighter than regular concrete. It is an excellent insulating material where it lasts for a long time and helps to protect the structure from other elements.

It is the newest, most sustainable material that we could possibly use for construction right now.

Hemp and lime naturally bind together, and the result is an amazingly strong substance called hempcrete.

Ideally, we’d see more construction using this type of material as hemp becomes more and more widespread and accepted.

As stated before, it is a building material, much lighter than concrete, and is great for insulation. While it is usually mixed with lime, it can also be mixed with sand. The popularity of these products is gaining popularity due to its availability increasing in recent years while prices of it have fallen.

Hempcrete, also called hemp-lime, is an insulation building material. It is a mixture of hemp hurd (fibers) water, and lime. Mixed, the lime covers the fiber, is activated by water so it binds chemically. Hemp has advantages over other fibers, especially because it grows quickly and easily, and the fibers are super strong.

Hempcrete is a building material made of the inner woody core of the hemp plant mixed with a lime-based binder. The core of the hemp (also known as “shiv”) has a high silica content which makes it bind well with lime. The result is a lightweight insulating material with the same consistency as cement but weighing about an eighth of the weight of concrete. Did you also know hempcrete blocks can float in a bucket of water!
