The nutritional value of hemp is terrific, but people often get confused when they’re presented with hemp seed and hemp hearts; here’s how they’re different.
Hemp Heart Vs. Hemp Seed
Hemp Hearts are hulled hemp seeds in their raw form. They are the slightly chewy, slightly soft contents found inside the hard-shelled hemp seed. You can consume them in their natural form, and they have a wonderfully subtle nutty flavor. You can toast them or cook them too. They can be added to your morning oatmeal, put them in yogurt, smoothies, with ice-cream, and more! If you’re on a dairy-free, paleo, or keto eating regime, hemp hearts are an authoritative source of nutrients. They have been awarded ‘superfood’ status for this very reason.
Hemp Seeds are derived from the Cannabis Sativa plant. They have a hard outer shell but are soft inside. Because of their hard shell, it’s tricky adding them to foods. If you have ever eaten a sunflower seed, this is a great comparison.

Hemps seeds are simply seeds of the hemp plant, which is covered by a hard nut-like layer and soft inside. They are options for snacks, but it is difficult to add on other recipes since they have a hard exterior. On the other hand, hemp hearts are raw, hulled hemp seeds, or only hemp seeds that surface was removed.

Hemp hearts are the same thing as shelled hemp seeds, or seeds that have had their hard outer coating removed. All that remains is the juicy, nutritious raw food that we call either hemp hearts or shelled hemp seeds.
